Notes for Captain George DUFF RN
Killed at Trafalgar 21st October 1805 by having his head shot off as his ship, HMS Mars, was raked by cannon fire from the Fougueux. Plaque to him in St Paul's on the wall on the south side of a passage, next to Nelson's memorial. Painted by Raeburn, painting owned by Janet Humphries and lent to Naval Museum, Portsmouth. His Patriotic Fund vase is in the Nelson collection at Lloyd's. Married in Fintray, 6th May 1791, Sophia Dirom (born 1764, died 1827; buried Greyfriars, Edinburgh).
