Entered the service of the Hull and Barnsley Railway Company at its inception in 1881, being brought from London by the Chairman, Colonel Smith. Appointed Registrar from c.1900 which post he held until 1918 when he was appointed Secretary and Registrar until the amalgamation with the L.N.E.R. He then retired at his own request in 1923 and was granted a substantial retiring allowance which was continued up to the date of his death. Family called Heidrich until changed name to HYDE in 1914.
